It is always great to get a chance to be a part of revolutionary art shows that combine the creative community with the aspect of social change. The Timeraiser art show is just this type of event. Set for the evening of September 23rd this highly curated art show will auction off art from international artists not for money but for volunteer hours at selected charities. This will be the third year that Vancouver has hosted Timeraiser in its city and the second time that Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg has had the opportunity of being a selected artist for the show.
Noted as 'part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town', Timeraiser is honestly a one of a kind event. The event initially started in Toronto in 2002, expanded to Calgary and eventually made its way out to the West Coast of Canada. The brilliance of this curation is that it makes art accessible for a socially good cause at the same time of making socially good causes accessible and easy to patrons. From the Timeraiser website, they stated by the end of 2009 the national shows have:
As a taste of who and what to expect at the third year in Vancouver, the artists that will be auctioning off art work are Adam Blasberg, Adam Colangelo, Danielle Baker, Danielle Hoogenboom, Derek von Essen, Ella Morton, Ivan Oyarzun, Katherine Freund-Hainsworth, Lisa Ochowycz, Mia Weinberg, Nancy Blanchard, Rachael Ashe, Russell Leng, Sarah Mulder, Scott Everingham, Steve Dynie, Tony Yin Tak Chu, Valerie Arntzen, Victoria Heryet, Connie Gibbens, Heather Dunn, Katherine Stone, Kris Krüg and Laura Hughes Moonglo.
The organizations/agencies that will be participating are Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland , Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Hemochromatosis Society, Canadian Mental Health Association - Vancouver/Burnaby, Canadian Paraplegic Association - BC, Canucks Autism Network, Compassionate Eye Foundation, Evergreen, First United Church, Immigrant Services Society of BC, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, North Shore ConneXions Society, Out on Screen, Pacific Parklands Foundation & Metro Vancouver, Peace It Together Society, Scouts Canada - Pacific Coast Council, Sustainability Television, Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation, Theatre Terrific Society, TRAC Tenant Resource & Advisory Centre, Urban Native Youth Association, West Coast LEAF (Women's Legal Education & Action Fund), West End Seniors' Network and Women Against Violence Against Women.
The event will take place this Thursday September 23rd at the Roundhouse in Vancouver. Vancouver residents who attend the Timeraiser art show should also check out Miss604 's Timeraiser/West Jet contest afterwards, which you can only enter if you participate in the silent art auction. Make sure to look for Kris Krüg's photo piece from his visit to the trainyard in Bolivia during the World People's Conference on Climate Change.
