It was only a few short weeks ago that the entire world had its eyes and ears glued to the news coming out of the city of Copenhagen. Known extensively for its bike culture and its chocolate, Copenhagen was the home of the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference . This conference was a global meeting of international leaders and designated negotiators, gathered to develop a ambitious, fair and binding global contract around carbon emissions. Lasting just under two weeks this conference, coined COP15, was covered by thousands of media and NGO from around the world. We were very excited at Static Photography to have sent Kris Krüg to Copenhagen to cover the conference as a UN accredited photographer.
Homebase for all media and NGos, unaccredited and accredited alike, was the Fresh Air Center sponsored by TckTckTck . For two weeks Copenhagen was full of protests, marches, activists, global leaders, and media, all with time and heart invested in COP15. Kris was there shooting during the actual negotiations in the Bella Center, during media coverage in the Fresh Air Center and in the streets. The stories that came out of COP15 were many, sometimes with conflicting information that changed minute by minute, but the one thing that came through each story was the fact that the global community had come to together to support the world's need of a fair, ambitious and binding contract.
Kris published over 1,000 photos during the COP15 conference, with many of them being used in blogs, media publications and videos worldwide. In addition to the conference ongoings, he also photographed the Climate Justice Action March, the Copenhagen Candlelight Vigil and a COP15 Concert by Gogol Bordello. Static Photography's studio manager Danielle Sipple made two videos using Kris' photos: The Truth and New Dark Ages.

Though there was not a fair, ambitious and binding contract that came out of Copenhagen this year, the global community came together in one of the greatest efforts for climate justice. The next conference will be held in Mexico in 2010.
