Best Photo Lab Ever! Thx To Specialty Color Services for All Your Love & Support

Thank you Specialty Color Services!
We at Static Photography have been very grateful and happy to have had so many people and organizations supporting us along the way. One of our awesome overall supporters of our work and an active film sponsor is Specialty Color Services, a photo lab in Santa Barbara, California.

After an initial merger of two parent companies Specialty Photo Lab and Color Services in 2005, Specialty Color Services combined the specialty knowledge of their black and white film background and their expanding knowledge on the upcoming digital future to create a really powerful and innovative photography lab.

The boys at SCS, Gabe and Glen, were first introduced to the photography of Kris Krug when researching images on Flickr for their Photograph Your Love photo contest. The PYL contest was the mastermind of Gabe after he was inspired from a Valentine store-front he was curating from old vintage photographs. He wanted to create a contest where people were encouraged to photograph the people they love in the same light that the vintage photographs were taken.

Initially Gabe had wanted to use several current images from Flickr that would capture the essence of the contest, yet when he discovered Kris' picture of his son Judah, Gabe realized that that photograph *was* the essence of the whole contest. Kris' photograph became their main image for the whole contest and campaign.

Inspired by a keynote by Mark Zuckerberg, SCS decided to use the social networking site Facebook to garner interest for their contest and their campaign. It proved to be quite successful when they were able to get sponsorships from Jesh deRox, Fujifilm, Calumet Photographic, Simple Shoes, Blenders in the Grass, Rabobank, Ilford, Volcom and others. The grand prize was a weekend workshop with Jesh deRox with full travel plans to wherever the workshop was held. The winners have been selected for the contest and they have since started a Photograph Your Love PhotoJournal Project in March utilizing the same platform in Facebook.

SCS has not only been a big supporter of Kris' analog photography addiction but is the current film sponsor on our trip to Shanghai to shoot our book Chinameme Vol. 1 Shanghai. They delivered us 100 rolls of film to our hotel in Banff, AB while we were there working at nextMEDIA and the Banff World Television Festival. A hundred rolls of film is an amazing gift and made Kris one happy photographer. : )

The guys at SCS also acted as the reverse of a film sponsor: a film developing sponsor. When Kris headed down to Santa Barbara to lead a design charette at the UCSB in April, SCS helped develop some 25 rolls of film for Kris.

Shot over a 6 month period, the rolls of film proved to be an amazing archive of the digital photographic timeline that is seen on kk+'s Flickr photostream. Having an amazing company as a sponsor lead by an rad group of guys like Glen and Gabe are the elements that make Static Photography totally worthwhile.

We are very excited about all the stuff we have been shooting for Chinameme Vol. 1 Shanghai while here in China! Thanks to SCS and the 100 rolls of film! We're excited to experiment and show you the results. :)
