Music is what moves the soul into rhythm. Every year after the geeks have fled Austin, TX to recover from five days of SXSW Interactive madness, the streets of this cozy creative town are flooded by the musical soundings of thousands of rockstars from all over the world. The music portion of the South by Southwest festival is coveted by music industry folks, up and coming bands and music nerds. Every available venue, from parking lots, art galleries and even small storefronts are turned into rock n' roll havens. Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg had the chance to hang out with guys from Jones Soda as they traveled in their Jones RV from party to party.  What a wild ride!

When March rolls around you know that spring has sprung and the annual gathering of geeks is in full swing at the Interactive portion of the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. Spread out over five days of panels, parties and networking, SXSW is the equivalent of geek heaven and geek spring break squished into on power-packed week. One respite of this crazy event is when there are small havens of quietness, power outlets and awesome smaller events which was the main goal of the Techset Hosted Samsung Blogger Lounge. Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg had a chance to kickback, recharge and spend some quality time geeking out in the lounge with his camera.

It's always a special time of year when the SXSW Festival hits Austin, Texas every March. During the first part of the festival, this eastern Texas hotspot is flooded by geeks and tech nerds from around the world that come out to network, promote and most importantly have a good time. This year was particularly exciting because individual companies pulled out all the stops and created their own personal venues within the festival itself. Such was the amazing Klout Krib that was nestled in the northern part of Austin.

What's a better way to trek all the way from Vancouver to Austin for SXSW then in one of the coolest road vehicles around? There are none when you are traveling in the Jones Soda RV. Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg and studio manager Danielle Sipple are joined by the likes of other creative scalawags in a road adventure that packs a punch.

It is that time of year again! The cold weather is coming with less frequency, the flowers are starting their journey to the topsoil and the geeks are starting to prepare for their yearly pilgrimage to Austin, TX. For a few weeks every March, the small independent city of Austin, TX is turned into a heavenly setting of geeks, technology and general debauchery with the annual South by South West Festival. This 12 day event is the setting for history making, whether it is in debuting new awesome technology or partying with your favourite twitter followers. The festival is split into three parts: SXSW Interactive, SXSW Film and SXSW Music. Welcome to the world of geeks, movies and rockstars.

Spring has sprung and nothing screams warm weather like the idea of a perfect afternoon riding your bike!

Our favorite blog. Every March for two weeks the town of Austin, Texas welcomes the world for its annual South by Southwest Festival, otherwise known as SXSW. This festival consists of three parts: Interactive, a four day geekfest for the internet community, Film, ten days of international cinema programs and Music, a four day non-stop schedule of live music. The Interactive section of the SXSW Festival is always a hotspot for the early adoption of the newest technology in the digital landscape. 2010 was the year of location-based application war between Gowalla and Foursquare, the debut of Google Bike Maps and a foray of citizen journalism at its geekiest.

Static Photography had the opportunity to be a part of the third Social Media Clubhouse during the SXSW festival this year in Austin, Texas. The SMCH was presented by Kristie Wells and Chris Heuer, who are the founders of the Social Media Club. The idea behind the clubhouse started off as alternate housing for conferences and moved towards a visionary shared space that included alternative summits, tweetups and performances. 

When March rolls around, everyone knows that it is officially Texas time. :)

As an artist it is always exciting when you are given the opportunity to showcase you are in a public format. Kris Krug from Static Photography was given this opportunity last week when he was asked to be part of a live concert photography art show titled Front Row at the Fifth Gallery in Austin, TX. The beautiful thing about Austin is that every year Kris attends the SXSW festival that happens there every spring. The tail end of the festival is filled with four days of nonstop live performances in venues all over the city of Austin. A large chunk of Kris' live concert photography is shot at the SXSW music festival every year.

The next big trip for Static Photography was traveling down to the southern section of Austin, Texas for the yearly festival of South by Southwest . SXSW includes four days of Interactive and Film followed by four final days of Music .

Kris was there for the whole festival, taking pictures of the participants of Interactive as well as photographing bands at their live performances during the Music section. Having previously been published in the LA Times , Kris' candid portraits of Interactive were chosen for a few selections of the 2009 Times coverage of SXSWi. 

Back in March, Static Photography's Kris Krug had an opportunity to shoot the legendary musical group R.E.M. in Austin, Texas during the SXSW 2008 music conference and festival. The festival showcased 1800 bands at 80+ venues around Austin.

Static has been photographing South by Southwest for 5 years now and has been lucky to meet many of our favorite musicians. This year one of Kris’ shots of Michael Stipe (R.E.M) was published on the front cover of the New York Press, a weekly newspaper dishing out the latest in music, film, dinning and more. (Note: this blogpost is in-progress... system malfunctioning... links and stuff coming soon.) We went to SXSW again this year to shoot as many musicians and concerts as possible. This time around we spent a little bit of time doing some pre-planning so that in addition to live concert shots of some of the best indie bands around, we could also schedule several bookings for editorial shoots with bands.

Other than fashion photography some of our favorite shoots are live concerts and bands. Static Photography was at South by Southwest (SXSW) again this year and had the chance to shoot over 30 bands including Bloc Party both live on stage as well as behind the scenes.
